Santa Claus making a listWinter has arrived and it’s time to get into the holiday spirit. If you’re looking for something fun to do, there are plenty of options around Wakefield, Rhode Island, and the state’s small size means you can hit all the events you’re interested in this year.

Check Out the Wonderland Winter Festival

For the full holiday experience, you won’t want to miss out on the Wonderland Winterfest. This all-encompassing holiday event has everything you’re looking for to get in the holiday spirit. The event takes place on December 20 and is a perfect way to kick off an extended holiday break.

Kids will be able to meet with Santa Claus so they can make sure they’ve put in any last-minute requests they may have left out from their Christmas lists. In addition to the meet and greet, you can also have your child take a photo with Santa to use as a souvenir. Santa will also have one of his elves with him to tell stories in the holiday yurt.

If you had any last-minute gift needs, or just wanted to make sure everyone’s stockings are extra-full, there will be shopping available for you to buy small gifts and local crafts. Lastly, be sure to enter the raffles being held at the Wonderland Winterfest. They can be a great way to make your holidays truly special.

Join the Gingerbread House Making Workshop

If you’ve always wanted to make those truly incredible gingerbread houses, but have always fallen short of your expectations, join the Gingerbread House Making Workshop on December 4 at the Easton Country Club. The event starts at 6:30 p.m., with decorating beginning at 7 p.m. The first 30 minutes of the event includes raffles and a festival of trees viewing.

When you purchase a ticket to the event, you’ll receive a pre-constructed gingerbread house, so when you attend you can focus on mastering the art of decoration instead of fussing with getting it together. There are three different colors available for decorating and there’s plenty of toppings to make your house unique and interesting.

Explore Christmas at the Newport Mansions

The Newport Mansions, which are about 30 minutes south of Wakefield, Rhode Island, are where you’ll want to be if you’re interested in what the state’s elite did in holidays passed. While the tours on any operating day are simply breathtaking, the tours taken from November 23 to January 1 are truly special.

Three estates, the Breakers, Elms, and Marble House, are all adorned with holiday decorations. The splendor and extravagance is simply incredible. In addition to over 1000 poinsettias on display, several other holiday decorations from the gilded age can be seen as well. Santa will also be in attendance on certain days, so if that’s something you’d like to do, be sure to check the schedule to make sure St. Nick will be there.

The entire state of Rhode Island is the place to be if you’re looking for holiday fun. Check out these three events if you and your family want to have fun this holiday season.
