Ice SkatingDon’t let Rhode Island’s winters keep you indoors for the whole season. There is plenty of winter fun to be had in the state if you choose to explore your options. If you’re looking for ideas on what to do during your next winter weekend, check out these fun spots:

Ice Skating at the Providence Rink

No winter is complete without one visit to the Bank Newport City Center-Providence to test out your ice skating abilities. The outdoor rink in this bustling shopping area is one of the quaintest places to go ice skating in Providence. In addition to ice skating, you’ll find fun ice bumper cars that the kids will love.

Admission to the ice rink is $7 per adult and $4 for children 12 and under. If you need to rent skates, you can do so for another $7. The rink is open from 10 a.m.-10 p.m.

Farmer’s Market at Hope Artiste Village

The Farm Fresh Winter Market at the Hope Artiste Village in Pawtucket is a great way to get out of the house and support your local food and craft producers. Every Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., you’ll get a chance to take advantage of over 80 vendors selling everything from baked goods and meats to coffee and house plants. If you want to upgrade your kitchen and favorite recipes, stocking your pantry with fresh items from the market is a great way to do it.

Hockey at the Rhode Island Sports Center

If you want to celebrate winter in the most exciting way, learn how to play hockey or join a hockey league at the Rhode Island Sports Center in Pawtucket. Whether you’re a seasoned hockey player or an absolute beginner, there’s plenty of fun to be had with a hockey stick in your hand, as well as a good workout.

Sledding at Roger Williams Park

Providence’s own Roger Williams Park is our pick for the best sledding spot in town. The age-old tradition of taking your kids to the top of a hill and pushing them over the side is something that needs to be a part of your yearly to-do list. Try to go as early as possible to get a few runs in before the rest of the town shows up.

Visit the Roger Williams Park Zoo

Just because winter is here doesn’t mean you can’t visit your furry friends at the Roger Williams Park Zoo. Until Feb. 29, admission to the zoo is half-price, so taking the whole family is the cheapest it will be the entire year. Get the chance to see giraffes, seals, armadillos, and much more at one of Rhode Island’s best zoos. The zoo is open daily from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tickets are normally $17.95 for adults and $12.95 for children 2-12.

Put on your best coat and start exploring these fun winter destinations in Rhode Island to make the most of your winter. Whether you want to get out on the ice or see something interesting, there are plenty of things to do until spring arrives.
