2020 Mazda CX-9If you’re in the market for a three-row SUV, one of the options in the Mazda lineup may be the perfect fit. The CX-9 is sleek, stylish, and available with a wide range of features that make it feel like a luxury model.

Stylish Exterior

From the outside, the 2020 Mazda CX-9 is sleek and appealing. The front end shows off a large grille with an oversized emblem, while the rear boasts combination LED lighting and badges. Even the base Sport trim level includes 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, heated and power-adjustable side mirrors with integrated LED turn signal indicators, dual exhaust outlets, and a body-colored rear spoiler. The higher models include eye-catching features like LED fog lights, adaptive front lighting, a moon roof, chrome accents, a power-operated liftgate, and large 20-inch wheels.

High-End Cabin Features

The cabin of the 2020 CX-9 is also a major selling point. It features three rows of seating with space for up to seven, while the cargo area capacity increases to 38.2 cubic feet with the third-row seats folded down. Soft-touch materials make the cabin feel particularly comfortable. The standard tech setup includes a six-speaker sound system with dual USB ports, a 7-inch touch screen with a control knob, and Bluetooth connectivity.

You can also get the cabin outfitted with ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, premium leather upholstery, second-row heated seats, and a high-end Bose audio system. Second-row captain’s chairs are available if you choose the top Signature trim.

Innovative Active Safety Components

Every trim level comes standard with Mazda’s suite of safety features to keep you and your passengers safe. The suite includes a rearview camera, radar cruise control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with lane-keep assist, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The higher trim levels add a surround-view monitor, front and rear parking sensors, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

Power and Pep

Mazda touts the peppy acceleration of the models in its lineup with its catchphrase, “zoom-zoom,” and the CX-9 is no exception. The acceleration is particularly quick for a model of its size, going from 0 to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds. Beneath the hood, you’ll find a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 310 pound-feet of torque and 227 horsepower. If you add premium gas to the tank, the output goes up to 320 pound-feet of torque and 250 horsepower. The engine pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission that shifts smoothly and feels controlled.

Front-wheel drive is standard on the lower three trims, while all-wheel drive comes standard on the Signature and is an option on the others. If you opt for AWD, off-road traction assist is also included, which sends torque to any wheels that lose traction in slick driving conditions. Drivers praise the CX-9 for its impressive handling, which drives more like a smaller SUV than a midsize three-row crossover.
