A variety of cultures is represented here, including Scotland (Scottish eggs), Mexico (Mexican shepherds pie), and Germany (bratwurst). The restaurant's unique spin on traditional comfort foods is what draws customers in and keeps them coming back. There will likely be a wait for your takeout or delivery order since everything is cooked to order, but once you get home with your meals, you'll understand why the restaurant takes the time to prepare its meals from scratch. 5 Essential Facts About the Breakers Mansion in Newport, RI

What do you do if you're one of the richest families in America? Build a mansion worthy of your opulent lifestyle. Known fondly as the Breakers, this 70-room house was completed in 1895. The cost? Over $12 million. 1. Whimsical Architecture Cornelius Vanderbilt II built the mansion as a summer home for his family. After seeing the original burned down, he insisted that the new one must be fireproof. Therefore he built it using steel, and he buried the furnace underneath the street! The design must have worked because the house still stands today. Cornelius' wife Alice made a few requests as well. Her bedroom featured a unique oval shape. Even the doors were specially made to fit the curved walls. She also required four closets in order to fit all her beautiful clothes. more 2. Still In The Family After the original owner Cornelius died, his wife Alice lived on the property until her death in 1934. The mansion then passed on to her daughter, the Countess Gladys Szechenyi. It was Gladys who allowed the Preservation Society of Newport to lease the mansion: on one condition. The third floor must always be left intact for the family to stay in. When Gladys passed away in 1965, her daughter Sylvia became the owner. Sylvia sold the mansion to the Society with the original deal in place. The family would always be allowed to live on the third floor. 3. The Mansion Is Rumoured to Have a Ghost The mansion contains a secret. The ghost of Alice Vanderbilt has been sighted by family, servants, and visitors. She is a charming and quiet ghost, content to stay mostly on the second floor where her bedroom was. Why does she linger? We don't know, and the family doesn't wish to disturb her with any investigations. 4. Extensive Grounds Covering 14 acres of gorgeous seafront property, the gardens at the mansion are not to be missed. The grounds boast many examples of rare trees, including blue atlas cedar and copper beeches. The landscape architect spared no expense, and the gardens and trees serve to insulate the mansion from both street noise and nosy neighbors. 5. Museum Tours The mansion is one of the most popular attractions in Rhode Island, receiving nearly 300,000 visitors each year. It has received the status of a National Historic Landmark. Tours are available daily to the public and include access to most of the first floor. The great hall, dining room, music room, and kitchen are must-sees. Be sure to take in the fresh ocean air on the loggia and witness stunning views. Occasionally special tours are available. These allow visitors access to previously closed off areas like the underground tunnel and basement. You don't have to be a billionaire like Cornelius Vanderbilt to feel like a king. 4 Tips for Visiting Fort Adams State Park

Established in 1965, Fort Adams State Park spans 200 acres and preserves Fort Adams and several other historic landmarks. Here are four tips for visiting the state park to ensure your experience is unforgettable, and not for the wrong reasons. 1. Bring Your Walking Shoes People wear all sorts of shoes to the famous park. However, they're often not appropriate for the situation. When you tour the fort and surrounding historic sites, you'll do a lot of walking. Make sure your shoes are comfortable enough to walk for an hour during the guided tour. This tour will give you a high-level overview of the fort's history during its active period from 1799 to 1953 and whet your appetite for more education. more 2. Make Time to Tour the Eisenhower House The park is open from sunrise to sunset every day. Be aware of what time the sun will set on the day you plan to go and make sure you leave plenty of time on your scheduled day to tour the Eisenhower House. Formerly known as Quarters Number One of Fort Adams or Commandant's Residence, this stately mansion was constructed in 1873. This sprawling Victorian-style home was first inhabited by General Henry Jackson Hunt after George C. Mason & Son constructed it. Today, it is called the Eisenhower House because President Eisenhower made it his summer residence between 1958 and 1960. Touring this house is like stepping back decades into the past, forgetting momentarily all of the stressors in your life. 3. Stay for the Best Sunset in Newport You should visit Fort Adams in the late afternoon at least once. The sunset from the west side of the Bay Walk is the most beautiful in the entire city. The Walk takes you along Narragansett Bay's picturesque East Passage and provides unobstructed views of the sun setting over Jamestown. Be sure your phone or favorite camera is charged so you can take pictures of Clingstone and the Castle Hill, Beavertail, and Rose Island lighthouses. Though the sun sets in the west, it's also worth it to stroll down the East Side of the Bay Walk which overlooks Newport Harbor. Across the harbor, you will see the New York Yacht Club, easily identifiable by its white and green awning, the Ida Lewis Yacht Club, the Newport Waterfront straight to the East of the state park, and Goat Island. 4. Go Between the July 4th Weekend and Labor Day Between July 4th weekend and Labor Day every year, you can take a 90-minute tour of the fort and the rest of the state park in a golf cart. If you think you'll forget, put it on your calendar. You won't regret your decision to schedule this special tour. Bold lines, smooth and aerodynamic arches, and a sleek front fascia are just the start of this sedan's eye-catching features. Here are the other ways the new 6 is sure to catch some attention. LED Exterior Lighting Even the base Sport trim level comes with LED exterior lighting —other sedans typically reserve LEDs for upper trims. Automatic LED headlights with auto-leveling capability work with sensors that monitor the position of the car on the road and make sure that the lights are always pointed down on the road ahead. This feature adds to your visibility and helps avoid impairing other drivers with lights directly in their eyes as you come over a hill. Additionally, automatic high beams automatically dim when another car is approaching. The taillights and daytime running lights are all LED lights providing more precise and clear visibility. An available adaptive front lighting system tracks the road ahead to keep the lights pointed where you want to go even as you turn corners. more Power-Folding Side Mirrors Body-colored heated side mirrors come with certain trim levels of the 2020 Mazda 6 and add to the smooth look of the exterior. These mirrors feature integrated turn signals and can automatically fold in for an easier fit in tight parking areas. No matter which of the five available colors you choose, every part of the exterior blends perfectly. Chrome-Tipped Exhaust The Mazda 6 comes standard with dual exhaust outlets featuring chrome tips. This exhaust fits perfectly with the available Dynamic Pressure Skyactiv-G 250-horsepower 2.5-liter turbocharged engine. With an engine that performs as beautifully as this one, the 6's sleek design doesn't stop at the exterior, it runs deep. Glass Moonroof The Touring, Grand Touring, and Grand Touring Reserve trims all feature a power-sliding moonroof made with tinted glass. With just one touch of a button, the roof opens up allowing fresh air in and providing an open cabin feel. The interior sunshade allows for a closed cabin feel when you want to keep the sun out. Standard Alloy Wheels Depending on the trim you choose, you'll enjoy various wheel sizes and styles. Every 2020 Mazda 6 model comes with aluminum alloy wheels, so no boring steel in this line-up. The Sport trim features 17-inch wheels with a gun metallic finish. Both the Touring and Grand Touring options up the wheel size to 19 inches with the same finish. If you choose the Grand Touring Reserve model, you'll get 19-inch wheels with a brilliant silver finish. Stop by Flood Mazda to see our showroom and lot full of new Mazda models. Items to Include on Your Tune-Up Checklist

Items to Include on Your Tune-Up Checklist

When drivers think their car needs a tune-up, that can cover a variety of things, but it usually means they are concerned about some aspect of the vehicle and want to make sure everything is running smoothly. Regular maintenance and tune-ups extend the life of your car, help keep you safe, and can even avoid costly repairs. So, where do you start when considering the overall health of your vehicle? Here are some items to make sure you include on your tune-up checklist. Ignition Parts If you haven't had your engine looked at in a while or you noticed it stalling or having trouble starting, the ignition needs some attention. The ignition system includes spark plugs, wires, coils, and a distributor cap and rotor. If any of these parts aren't functioning properly, the engine won't run as efficiently as it should and could end up damaged over time. Take your vehicle to an auto service place and ask them to check over the ignition parts. Replacing old spark plugs or ignition coils is much easier and more affordable than replacing an entire engine. more Fluids Several different fluids work inside your vehicle to keep things running clean and smooth. Routine fluid replacements, refills, and flushes are a great way to make sure your car stays healthy. Be sure to include brake fluid, coolant, motor oil, power steering fluid, and transmission fluid on your tune-up checklist. Sometimes a fluid level simply needs to be checked and maintained, which is easy to do at home. But, system flushes and replacements are good for a professional to handle. Belts and Hoses Every car uses several types of belts and hoses to transfer fluid and power. These items undergo normal wear and tear over time and should be regularly checked and replaced when necessary. If one of the engine hoses isn't working properly, the engine could overheat. A belt tensioner makes sure the belts stay in the right position, preventing uneven or premature wear. Worn belts can break and cause major damage and even dangerous driving situations. Ask a certified mechanic to look over your serpentine belt, belt tensioner, timing belt, radiator hoses, heater hoses, and hose clamps. Filters Air and fluid filters keep particles and contaminants from entering important systems in your car. Dirty or clogged air and oil filters reduce performance and efficiency. Cabin air filters help keep the air you breathe inside your car clean and fresh. Changing this filter is easy and should be done regularly. You may be shocked to see how dirty your cabin air filter is if you haven't replaced it in a while. Other filters to add to your checklist include the fuel filter, PCV valve, oil filter, and the engine air filter. Sometimes your car doesn't just need a tune-up, it needs to be replaced. If you're ready to enjoy all the perks and comfort of a new car, head to Flood Mazda and check out their wide selection of new models and consider trading in your old model.

4 Signs You Should Change Your Engine Air Filter

4 Signs You Should Change Your Engine Air Filter

An engine air filter keeps dust, particles, and contaminants out of the engine as it runs. An excessively dirty or clogged filter isn't good for the engine and can lead to major issues down the road. Even though an engine air filter plays such an important role in proper engine function, it is easily overlooked. However, filters are easily replaced and inexpensive. Here are four signs that you should change your engine air filter. Check Engine Light Any time the check engine light comes on, many drivers panic and assume there's a major, costly problem. The issue frequently requires a simple fix, like a new engine air filter. When you see this indicator light, pop the hood and locate the air filter. In newer cars, it looks like a box with clips or fasteners that can be unhooked or unscrewed to gain access. Open the box, find the filter, and pull it out. more Visible Dirt If you run your hand across the filter and your hand ends up dirty, it's time for a new one. A small amount of dust can be knocked off by hitting the back of the filter. The more dirt and dust you can see on the filter, the less air can pass through to the engine. The purpose of the filter is to keep the things it catches from getting into the engine, so it's good that it's dirty because it means it's working, but it also needs to let air through. A clean air filter is white or light yellow, so as it catches dirt and dust over time, it will become darker. It if looks dark and brown or gray, it probably needs to be changed. Be sure to check your filter in good lighting. Decreased Horsepower A problem with decreased horsepower could be as simple as a clogged engine air filter. If air isn't flowing through the engine, it can't perform well. If you feel like the vehicle is having trouble accelerating well or it's jerking when you step on the gas, you might just need to give it a clean filter for more air. If the filter is in bad enough shape to affect the performance of your car, you shouldn't let it go unchecked much longer. Don't miss out on an enjoyable drive when you can easily fix the problem. Fuel Efficiency Loss An efficient engine is a clean and well-maintained engine. If any parts of the engine system aren't doing their job, it won't run efficiently. When an engine isn't getting the oxygen it needs to run, it will consume more fuel to compensate. Fuel is also wasted due to a lack of airflow. The excess fuel that couldn't burn without the necessary oxygen travels out the exhaust system and you might notice a gasoline smell when you start the engine. If you think you need a new air filter, head to Flood Mazda's service department for quick and easy service. Take some time to browse their selection of new Mazda models during your visit. You might even want to take a test drive or two. Image by Jarkko Mänty from Pixabay
