Take a Tour of Peace Dale

Drive through the scenic routes of Southern Kingstown and learn about the rich history of the natives spanning over two and a half centuries. Start in the milling village of Peace Dale, known for its role in establishing New Englands’ textile manufacturing industry. The town was named by Rowland Hazard of the prestigious Hazard family who established the Peace Dale Manufacturing Company in the early 19th century. Next, you may visit the Neighborhood Guild, another legacy of the Hazard family, which trains the local women in domestic arts. 

Visit the Peace Dale Public Library whose grounds are home to “The Weaver”, a bronze sculpture made by the famous artist Daniel French. If you’re a lover of architecture, then the Single Arched Bridge will interest you. Made from granite blocks, this perfectly designed structure was built by Indian artisans over 100 years ago.

Visit the Historic Wickford Village

Make your next stop at one of the oldest preserved colonial villages in the United States. Wickford dates back to the 17th century and was once a thriving harbor town. These days, you can go on a walking tour through the rich corners of the town, taking in the old business districts and beautiful architecture which has survived for over 300 years. If you’d prefer a little more activity, rent a bike and cycle through the town. Better still, go out on the harbor in a kayak and enjoy the cool sea breeze. Art enthusiasts can visit any of the art galleries which are open to the public for free.

Explore the Beaches of South Kingstown

South Kingstown is home to over 20 public beaches for just the relaxation you need. The South Kingstown Town Beach is the official public beach. Located by the village of Matunuck, this beach hosts a pavilion where you can sit back and enjoy the view. It’s also family-friendly so you can bring your kids along to have fun at the playground. You can also head over to East Matunuck State Beach which is noted for its strong surf.

Taste the Flavors of Rhode Island

Head over to North Kingstown to savor the many flavors of the town. You can dine at a waterfront restaurant on any of Kingstown’s beaches, or head further inland for fast-casual or fine-dining experience. Start with a coffee bun French toast at The Breakfast Nook I, located at 6130 Post Road. Head to lunch at Boston Neck Pizza which has delicious sausage and pepperoni pies. If you’re vegan or allergic to gluten, not to worry — they have something for you too. Finish off with Mexican food for dinner at El Tapatio Restaurant. This family-owned shop serves authentic Mexican cuisine made fresh every day.
