The Mazda CX-5 fits into the compact SUV segment, has plenty of room for four passengers, and comes well-equipped with features and functions. The 2019 model has a new high-end trim level, a new engine for the higher-end trims, and Mazda tweaked the braking and suspension systems as well. Here is a look at the 2019 Mazda CX-5.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2019 CX-5 comes in five different trim levels. The Sport is the entry-level model and comes with 17-inch wheels and LED headlights. The CX-5 Touring adds automatic wipers and the option for a sunroof and a power liftgate. Bump up to the Grand Touring to make the moonroof and power liftgate standard and add LED fog lights, heated side door mirrors, and the option for a windshield wiper deicer. The CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve adds power-folding mirrors and the Grand Touring Signature comes with upgrades in the cabin.
Engine (Power)
The Sport, Touring, and the Grand Touring models all come standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 187 horsepower and gets 186 pound-feet of torque. The new Grand Touring Reserve and the Signature both get a turbocharged version of the 2.5-liter that will get 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, this will bump up to 250 horsepower with 91 octane gas.
Performance
The new 2.5-liter turbo four-cylinder is one of the most powerful engines you'll find in a compact SUV and delivers a punch of power, but whether you have the base engine or the turbo, the CX-5 is fun to drive. Mazda's vectoring feature comes in every model and adds to its cornering abilities by subtly applying the brake to an individual wheel when needed.
Interior
There are enough seats for up to five passengers in the CX-5, with supportive and comfortable seats up front and room for taller passengers in the back. The upscale cabin has high-quality materials and every trim level comes with a leather-wrapped steering wheel with the option for upgraded Nappa leather. Optional features include a heated steering wheel, both heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and power-adjustable front seats.
The technology starts with a 7-inch touch screen, Bluetooth, voice commands, HD radio, and two USB ports. Depending on the trim, you can get extra USB ports, a 10-speaker Bose stereo, navigation, and satellite radio. New for 2019, Mazda also offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as an option. The new Touring Signature model adds extras such as ambient cabin lighting and premium leather upholstery.
Safety Features
All the CX-5 models come with a rearview camera, low-speed automatic braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. You can get a forward collision warning system, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree surround-view camera, full-speed automatic emergency braking, lane departure alert, and lane keeping assist as part of the available i-Activesense Package for the Sport, this group comes standard on the Touring models. There is also a head-up display available as an option, along with automatic windshield wipers.
